Division 6 Winter 2006-2007 Champions!

It was a hard fought playoff final game for us Shifters!  For those who missed it, here's an amateur commentary by Karen.

We were playing against the Lady Ligers.  They had 13 players, we had 10.  Between mixing up the lines, trying to get more offensive fire power, we were doing badly - say the least.  The score in the 3rd period was 3-0 in favor of the Lady Ligers.  They almost had this one in the bag...

Then Coach Barry showed up and gave everyone a tongue lashing.  I recall his piercing words to the wingers and same to the defence.  "You guys are playing awful... just horrible... like it's not even the final playoff game..."

Harsh words, but it was ALL we needed because it gave us Shifters the momentum to pick it up our game.  Step up a notch... we've worked so hard all season.  Can't let this one slip up, eh?

The Ligers got a penalty for tripping at 6:07.  Kit weaved through traffic, split their defence and scored on the powerplay, unassisted at 6:37.  Then at 7:53, Lindsay picks up a pass from Kit and rushes to the net and scores!  We were getting close...

The Lady Ligers were now getting choked.  Carole was doing superb at rustling their feathers!!  They fought back and ended up with a holding penalty at 8:04.   And deep in their zone, Carole and Lindsay work it up hard in on the right side and puck comes loose to the left, and Karen pops one past their goalie - now we're tied 3-3. 

We didn't give up.  We could smell the taste of success.

Just 3 minutes left to the game... Lindsay steals the puck away from their defence, turns on her jets and skates to the left side.  Carole holding on firm on the right side.  Karen pulls back to the centre.  Nifty plays by Lindsay, fighting hard along the boards, Carole supporting strong, Karen stands in front to screen their goalie, stick pointed down towards their net.  Lindsay shoots, and the puck is tipped in by Karen's stick.  (Hey - honestly I didn't even know I scored cos' the Ligers chick was gripping my stick so hard I thought she was gonna break my stick!)

And alas - it's 4-3 for the Shifters!  We WIN!  

Unimagingable - coming back when we were down 3-0, to win with 4 goals in 1 period.

Undying combined team effort - outstanding goaltending by Denny to keep us in the game - powerful words of encouragement from Coach - superb leadership.

Stick Shifters rule!  Way to go - everyone...
